A cabinet door usually gets loose because the hinge screws slowly back out over time. When that happens, the door can start to sag, shift, or stop closing the way it should.
Why it happens
- Daily opening and closing loosens the screws
- The door shifts a little at a time
- Hinge screws back out from regular use
Symptoms
- The door looks crooked
- It rubs when you open or close it
- It doesn’t line up like it should
Step 1: Open the door and find the loose hinge screws
Open the cabinet door and look at the hinge. Check the screws on the hinge plate and the screws holding the hinge to the door.

Step 2: Tighten the screws and test the door
Use a screwdriver to snug the screws down. Then open and close the door a few times to make sure it lines up and swings smoothly.

Step 3: Still loose? Give us a call.
If the screws won’t tighten, the holes are stripped, or the door still sags, give us a call and we’ll swing by to help.
